Lianne Nixon has always been in love with paper, and pens. With a name fit for presidents, she seems to be oddly humble. But since she found something she simply can’t stop creating, these crazy cool interiors, she’s ready to share it with the world. And the world seems to like it!
Hi, where do you live / where are you from?
Hi! Originally I’m from Alkmaar and have been living in Haarlem for three years now.
How does this place influence you as an artist?
It doesn’t really influence me as an artist but Haarlem is a good combination of Alkmaar (A place I have known all my life and feels save) and Amsterdam (a city which inspires me every time in every way) so I do feel home and that is the most important thing I think. People seem to be ambitious here then where I come from so that’s a good thing.
What are you focusing on in your work right now?
I love to draw with no purpose and sometimes I just draw whatever fits on paper. Other times I like to focus more on a specific item and create a series of illustrations. Right now the classic designer chairs seem to have caught my attention, haha.
What’s your favorite piece of (design) furniture? And why?
We have this very heavy and big drawing cabinet in our very small living room, soft army-ish green. And although I know it is stuffed with too much stuff, it seems to breath calmness.
What are your finest moments?
The evenings and nights. I think that’s because the only thing next you “have to do” is sleeping and nothing else.
And your worst?
The mornings when I tell myself that today is the day that I must draw because now is the day I don’t have to work at my part-time job so now I can finally draw… These days mostly turn out to be a Netflix day.
How do you begin creating a new artwork?
It always starts with a very nice piece of heavy, colored paper. You could call me a paper freak, or lover. The color of the paper pretty much sets the mood and style of the interior that I want to create. Then I’ll cover my desk all over with my Posca and Molotow markers and somehow always start drawing the couch. From that moment the room seems to fill itself.
Final question, what do we really not know about you yet?
I need glasses or contacts with a decent plus strength otherwise I can't see a dime!
